2000 XK8 owner for a day!

I only picked up my 2000 XK8 with 52000 miles on the clock yesterday but I'm already in awe of the thing, been a long time coming and it hasn't disappointed, if anything it's exceeded my very high expectations.
But there are improvements I'd like to make, cosmetic thankfully, and I'm hoping a terrible DIYer with no mechanical knowledge like myself can find the info on this forum to avoid any unnecessary disasters...

I bought my car from an auction and I hadn't inspected it in person before my bid won! The price was so good I felt the risk was worthwhile and so far (after 2 days!) I couldn't be happier with it. Some unusual things I found out - it had an xkr bonnet fitted at some stage. It was originally orange but resprayed a month after initial purchase I think by the original owner. Maybe he/ she should have bought a black xkr? Im v happy with both choices tho!

I think its been garaged for the past 17 years and only driven a few hundred miles a year so its in better nick than I could have hoped.

a few tiny scratches that I'll fix and a couple of the alloys need a small refurb but other than that I think it looks amazing for its age.

Interior leather needs some attention but only a few shallow cracks rot deal with, gear knob is cracked too so that'll be replaced. Would love to refresh the veneers somehow but not sure it's necessary. The steering wheel has lost some varnish around the back so feels terrible in places which also needs some work but other than that I couldn't believe the condition this car was in when I picked it up.

welcome to the forum - nice looking coupe! Definitely in the right place for help with any issues - this forum is the best tool in a Jag owner's tool box. Keep an eye on the upper shock mounts (in engine photo they look original) as the foam deteriorates over time which will drop the front end and cause the tires to wear on the inner edge - most of all - enjoy!!!

1. go any distance necessary to inspect the vehicle minutely
2. buy sight unseen
Amazingly both extremes are usually satisified with their purchase.
