2001 XK8 Convertible, New Member.
I have owned a 2001 XK8 since 2001. It is now 12 years old and I am starting to get a few problems.
I have followed your forum for a couple of years. I must thank all the members that post tips and videos of the repairs. I have used the tips to repair my driver door panel and changed spark plugs and thermostat. Your posting has helped a lot so I decided to join as well.
I am an engineer by education and have worked in trouble shooting for many years.
I have a low cooling level light on, I disconnected the wires and put a paperclip between the two wires and the light was gone. This told me that the sensor must be faulty. ( I was wrong)
I bought a new sensor and installed it but the light was still on. After reading all the postings on low coolant level I am now convinced that after 12 years the float is getting bad. I had the tank louse when I replaced the level sensor and I rinsed it out with water and I could hear the float move when I held the tank upside down. I could never see the float.
But then again I did not know what to look for.
Anyway that is a little bit about myself.
Do you guys think I am right and have to buy a new tank?
Your input would be appreciated.
Thank you,

Welcome to the forum Leif,
Good to have you here with us at Jaguar forums.
The plastic Expansion Tank is a regular issue both for cracks and for the Coolant level Sensor clipped into the bottom failing. you'll get advice on how to check for a sticking float in the XK8/XKR tech forum. If you do decide to replace it, the Expansion Tank comes as an assembly complete with float and pressure cap for straightforward replacement.
After following the forum for a couple of years, you won't need a link to the Xk8/XKR tech forum from me. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for info on regular issues.
Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.
You can also visit the US Western East Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/western-us-ak-ca-nv-ut-hi-wa-id-38/ to find other members in your region.
Enjoy the forums.
