2004 Jaguar XJ8 Moving Slow And Smoke from one Exhaust
Hey guys, I have a 2004 Jaguar XJ8 with a 4.2L V8, we changed the Radiator and the bottom metal line was not plugged in and was throwing oil out I can't tell if it's motor or transmission fluid if for some reason, the transmission started having trouble shift into gears and it has to be revved high for the car to move, it also refuses to let me have full power. there is white smoke is coming from the left side of the exhaust, I also get a message that says transmission fault, if anyone could tell me what's going on I would be so thankful
If this was my car, I would say the radiator line that wasn't reconnected was a transmission cooling line. If it was the pressure side, you may have lost a considerable amount of trans fluid, which would explain why it only moves on high revs. It takes that much to build enough pressure to apply the clutch packs. Easy remedy, fill the transmission to recommended level on the dip stick.
About your white "smoke," that's almost always steam from a blown head gasket. Hopefully not in your case, and I also admit I'm not familiar with that particular engine. Someone with more experience over in the XJ8 section will certainly be better able to help you with both problems.
