2004 XJ8 CEL Question
Hello - I just joined the Forum today and am excited to chat with other Jag owners ! I recently purchased a 2004 XJ8 Vanden Plas with 94k and I love it so far but I have a concern. A few days ago the Engine Malfunction Light came on but there was no change in performance. I took it to Auto Zone to have the codes read but they tested it and got no codes. I started the car and the light went out. Yesterday the light came on again but then went out later.
Any idea what might be going on here ?

Welcome to the forum greggnpdx,
Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.
The MIL is triggered by a subset of stored or pending error codes. It does not go on and off by itself. At the very least you will ALWAYS see either P1000 (OnBoard monitoring test not complete) or P1111 (OnBoard monitoring tests complete) so if they tell you there are NO CODES, suspect their scantool is not compatible with your Jaguar.
Follow this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...-x350-x358-28/ to the X350 forum for help, advice and information. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues.
Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.
You can also visit the US Northwest Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/us-northwest-64/ to find other members in your region.
Enjoy the forums.

Hello, Greg,
My Brand X (non Jaguar) does that whenever it feels like it. Light comes on, then goes out. After some days (or weeks) it comes on again, and goes out. I've stopped worrying about it. Of course, you might not want to be so casual about it as your car is new to you. I hope you find the cause and a solution.
Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.
