2005 Jaguar

2005 Jaguar
Five years ago I purchased a 2005 Jaguar XJ Supercharged from a friend of mine in Florida. It had only 34, 000 miles and was in pristine conditions. Now it has 60,000 miles. This is my third Jaguar, having owned previously a 1988 XJ and a 1996 XJ. Recently I have experienced the "Reduced Performance" message and have had difficulty finding the source of the problem. The only Jaguar dealership in town does not like to work on "old" Jags... the service manager tells me the workers are only trained on new vehicles and my Jag has an "expiration date" that has already passed. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Three things:
- Use a voltmeter to read the available battery voltage with the engine OFF for at least thirty minutes.Should be a minimum of 12.6 volts showing on the voltmeter.
- Use a Bluetooth interface with a smart phone and the Torque app to interface with the vehicle's ECM to see if there are any pending or stored DTCs
- How many kilometres/miles are showing on the instrument cluster?

Not unusual to find a Jaguar Dealer will only work on current or recent models but not very helpful. The first step in troubleshooting the "Reduced Performance" issue is to have the codes read. Get the actual codes and not just the descriptions as these can be misleading unless the Jaguar decode is used.

Hello, Luigi,
In truth Most dealerships don't like to work on cars, even those they sold originally, that are more than 3 or 4 years old, 5 at the most. Some even Refuse. They would far rather sell you a new car as that IS their business after all, Dealing.
