97 XK8 J Shifter Microswitches repair
After reading about the problems here with the 2 microswitches that tell the car whether it's in Park or Neutral, which is the problem that my '97 XK8 had, I've come up with the repair.
It took a while, but I located microswitches that use the same mounting holes as the originals.
you only have to drill out the old ones. Unplug them from harness, cut the wires off, and solder them onto the new ones and Rivet them back in.
I'm thinking about making this a kit to sell on Ebay. It would include:
A. 2 microswitches
B. One drill bit
C. 6 Rivets, you only need 4 but I dropped one into the console so I'm including 2 spare.
The microswitches I found have a longer arm then needed and I cut them to the correct length.
the park switch arm is the length of the switch and requires a bend in it and the neutral is half the length of the switch.
On Ebay all the used shifters i saw have switches that were missing arms so they are useless. This can be done without taking the shifter out of the console. Not sure about a price yet. I fixed the problem in my car and she's back on the road again.
