Welome Kitty, could be several things, coils, injectors, filter, timing chain. What maintenance and miles you have on her so far?

The idle air control valve very well could cause your symptoms. Yes, the weak filler cap can cause an engine code.

Weak seal on the gas cap. Solution is to buy a new gas cap!
