Default Annoying cabin squeaky rattle.

Hi all jag fans. I recently bought a 2011 XJL. Ride is a lot harder than I was used to having had lots of older xj models. I guess this is the price you pay though for 20" wheels and lower profile tyres. Love the car though. Over the last few weeks though it had developed a very annoying squeaky rattle when going over bumps or on rough roads. No matter where you sat in the car it was impossible to tell where the noise was coming from. Had it in the garage today and took a mechanic with me on a ride round. We still couldn't find the problem. When I got home today I sat in the back of the car and pulled pushed and shook every bit of trim and fitting. At the point of giving up I noticed a bit of white plastic sticking out from under the trim of the rear Sun roof. So I tugged and coaxed out a plastic bag someone had stuffed in there some time in the past. Eureka! So out on yet another test drive the squeak rattle is worse. 😢 Back to the drawing board. I put the plastic bag back but also added another plastic bag under the opposite back corner. As I did this it pushed down slightly the roof panel. I also noted slightly in from the corner where I put the plastic bag there was a plastic catch holding up the trim/roof. The catch was loose but holding up the trim. Back out on another test drive and hallelujah all is quiet. I hope at least one person may find this useful. I was close to getting rid of the car but back in love with it again now. Please Jaguar if you're going to build luxury cars don't use cheap plastic fittings.

Hello,
I think Everyone who can hear finds squeaks and rattles annoying. Certainly now you Know this was not a new problem as some Previous Owner had attempted to fix it.

Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.

I read in a threat to just turn the music up to drown out the squeaking and rattling noises. But then I read where someone said you should turn the music down to hear what your engine is doing. I'm so torn!
