+1...Why 88 and below? Are you trying to avoid the Jags with Ford's influence in them? If so, I would suggest dropping the ideology and shoot for the XJ40, specifically the latter years of that model. Beautiful car, and quite reliable. Also, most of the early XJ40 quirks were worked out.

Thanks for the welcome! I was looking to buy a car that avoids the Ford motor influence and is a true classic. The XJ40 is a nice ride, nevertheless I don’t like the way the headlights on the car looks. Most of the Jaguars that I like have the round headlights; this is consistent with my favoring of the Mercedes Benz. I really am leaning toward the Series III XJ 1987. How much do you think I should be paying for this car? And does anybody know of some common problems with this car?
