Another New Guy
Hi everyone> Im new to the Jag Forums. I have been a lurker on many different cars forums. I work as an auto mechanic on most all makes at our family shop here in the midwest USA. I've also done a bit of rally racing in the navigator seat in a VW Jetta. My brother drives/fabs and is 95% done with the new Fiesta build. So Im kind of a car person
My dad gifted me with the jag 6 months ago. At first I refused due to the less than stellar reputation for maintenance issues jags have. So it sat in the work lot for a while. Then one day I had ridden my motorcycle to work and too much afternoon rain forced me into driving the Jag home. I liked it much more than I expected. It is a 02 XJ8. My daily driver is an old golf with a 2.0, which don't get me wrong is great for go karting around, but the Jag was a real heavy car with a v8, rear wheel drive and nice interior and ride. I would say originally its not my style of car but its really grown on me- A Proper Automobile.
Ive been switching out worn out stuff already. New Alternator and Interstate Battery. New set of Continental tires. Mahle Valve cover gasket set and NGK Ruthenium Plugs. Front shocks replaced with oem Bilstein. Windscreen was swapped out by SafeLite. Intermittent front abs sensor swapped out and new brakes hung today- Pagid Rotors with Brembo Ceramic Pads. I do the Rock Auto shopping and they have some good deals- especially on stuff I can't get at local NAPA or Oreillys.
I enjoy driving it on my hour plus round trip commute to work and back. I don't trust it enough to drive it out of state yet but its slowly gaining it the more miles I put on it. I like to drive it at excessive speeds- It is a car and as such, they were designed to go fast despite protests from the peanut gallery. Next up is fixing the door panels so the speakers don't rattle. I look forward to gleaning some tips on the repair side.
my xj8. there are many like it but this one is mine

Hello,
So. Another Classy Cat claims another convert! Congratulations!!
I have noticed that most people who have the most negative things to say about Jags have never owned one, nor do they Personally know anyone who has. When asked how they know all these negative things they say, "Well, Everyone Says So."
Most biggish problems are due to Deferred Maintenance, wherein small irritants are allowed to become major annoyances, and then Massive and Expensive Repairs. When the situation gets to that point, the only thing to do is to tackle one thing at a time as you're doing. Good Job!

This car is built like a frigging tank! Its in a ridiculous different higher class from the us domestic matchbox cars(chevy, dodge ford) im used to working on. Im so impressed I actually joined the forums to extoll its virtues. It keeps getting better handling and performance with every old part I replace. I like that it focuses on the one important job of moving the driver from origin to destination
