Another new Jaaaaag owner hits the streets
Hi
Just picked up my 1999 XKR!! Wanted a Jag since I was about 18 and spent a month photographing a brochure for a Jaguar dealer.
I went through a long decision process, started with an X-Type Diesel, this remained a strong contender for a while but when my wife got a new car that was a diesel I realised economy was not a primary concern. Choice now moved to an XJ6/XJ8, again spent some time looking at these, unfortunately, and I can assure you this was not my view, my wife and children claimed this was an old mans car......
I was not discouraged and continued to look, then I had an
epiphany and realised I could afford a XK8!! So, I drew up a shopping list, Green or Black, cream leather, 75k max mileage, budget of £6500 MAX!
It took a while and I ended up with the XKR (no bad thing?) but I found a nice example with 1 owner and below budget.
I neglected to mention, I didn't mention to the family my change of model decision, so currently the kids think I am great but the wife has decided to get her own back by buying a new bed, a new sofa, getting a garage built (for her car) and redoing the driveway, so all in all an expensive car. She has also queried how I plan on taking rubbish to the dump in the Jaaaag....
The car isn't perfect, there is a horrendus metallic rattle from the rear wheels and the rear diff is whining but it puts a serious smile on my face when I breath on the throttle..
About me, over 50, so my wife keeps reminding me, three kids, 18 - 23, my virtual garage (!) contains an old Mini ('83) and a Yamaha 600, so I think my middle age rebellion continues.
I also play (?) Bass in a band of aging rockers who should know better!!
Take care, and I look forward to some entertaining discourse, not to mention some brain picking.

Welcome to the forum Bass-man,
Great Intro and splendid choice of model.
Unusual noises on Jaguars can herald expensive trouble so best not to delay examining the rear end rattle for too long.
Follow this link XK8 / XKR - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the XK8/XKR section for help, advice and information. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top there is a good place to start for info on regular issues.
