Default Another noob with no Jag

Hi, just wanted to join the forum and see what people are saying/recommending about the Jaguar. Usually I buy cars and only then find the forum to help me maintain/fix the beast. This time decided to go the other way. I like big cars and my back like their soft (relative to smaller cars) ride. I also would like to do as least as possible of the environmental damage as I can. I know, I know having a big boat of the car and been environmentally friendly is kind of oxymoron. I have a 98 Saturn wagon that I use for a relatively short, around town trips and use my 93 Lincoln Town Car for most of the long distance driving. I see sometimes adds on the CL for 98/99 Vander Plas in 4-5 range, but I've heard that some of the Jags (not sure which ones) had bunch of problems with transmissions or suspensions. I can't afford to buy something unreliable, so any suggestions - please.
Thanks!

Welcome ,
1995-97 X300s are good choices . Some '98-01 model years had nikasil issues . Tranny : I don't think Jaguars come with unreliable trannies
Suspension : Due to mileage that might be a problem . Mostly bushings worn out which is not a big deal . However old models that came with the hydraulic oil were real problem .

welcome, and very smart to research here first!

you've got several options, just dig in and start reading about each model...you've got the X-type , S-type, XK8, XJ .. and any number of styles, from the supercharged R versions to the convertibles, vanden plas, etc. Lots of motor sizes, transmission choices, and their individual quirks.

If I were you, i'd start on a model each night and make notes on the years, good and bad. Good luck, and have fun!
