Smile Back with a Jag, after 50+ Years

My name is Rick, I live in Orange County New York USA. I am retired, a widower, AND
I've been the proud owner of my newly acquired 2009 XK8 Coupe for 3 days now. I picked it up at the dealership on Wednesday November 15th, and have been studying the owner's manual ever since. Yesterday, while playing with it's electronics, without the engine running, I even ran the battery down. Lucky that I have a jump starter pack handy. If you've never done that, the amount of response from the car with ll its warning lights buzzing and flashing, on its way to shut down, is astounding. The last time I drove a Jag, was in 1966!! My profile picture was taken in The Summer of 1966 and is of myself and the 1956 XK120, and competition driving trophies, my friend and I had won with it, at Motor Cross & Rallies in just a couple of years. Back then my main car was a 1959 Mercedes 190SL
I have many questions about my newly acquired baby, but as I read thru, and study, the manuals, I am sure that most of my questions and concerns will be answered.
OK Maybe a few from a newbie:
1) How do I turn off the navigation system, without deleting the entry, if i change my mind enroute to a destination?
2) Where is the dip stick to check transmission fluid, and for that matter the fill cap should the transmission need fluid?
Thanks so much for adding me.
Rick with an 2008 XK8 Coupe
Oh and there are no pics of my new baby, It's been raining.....

Welcome.

No idea on the Nav system

NO dipstick for the trans, a sealed unit, BUT it still needs a fluid service/change every 80K kms, and is a DIY, but not easy.

Welcome to the forum Rick,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.

Jaguar dropped the 8 with the introduction of your model in 2006. it became either XK for the normally aspirated but retained XKR for the supercharged version.

I can see you've already found your way to the XK/XKR forum so there's no need for a link to it from me.

Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

You can also visit the US Northeast Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/us-northeast-35/
to find other members in your region.

Enjoy the forums.

Graham
