Default Been A Long Time

Hello Fellow Jaguar Lovers.

I am Joe from Pittsburgh PA. I am new to this forum, but not to Jaguars. I am originally from Rhode Island and while still in college, I bought a 1966 XKE OTS. It was truly a barn find as I found it in a barn in Connecticut. I knew pretty much nothing about Jaguars at that time, but it was an XKE! It was black with a black interior and it was so beautiful. Unfortunately, it was not in very good condition with quite a bit of rust. We all know what rust does to an E-Type. To make a long story short, with help from my parents and a dear family friend, I scraped up enough money to have the body repaired and repainted. I re-did the interior, boot and the under-bonnet with NOS parts which were still available from BL at that time. I picked up a factory E-Type spare parts book during the process and as I joked to my Dad, "now I can see how many parts I don't have!" It finally got finished and after graduation, I took a job out west and my family went out there with me. I did not like the job nor the area, so we would up going back to Rhode Island. We drove our two Pontiacs back while I drove the E-Type. It was a 2000 mile trip and that Jaguar did not miss a beat the whole trip. What an amazing car it was. Eventually, I sold it to a collector to pay a long-standing debt we owed. It was quite the experience to own and restore that E-Type.

I have another Jaguar story to share to even more firmly cement my Jaguar heritage. One day in the early 80s, my Dad and I were going into a record store in Warwick Rhode Island. I had my EJAG t-shirt on with an E-Type on it (of course!). There was an XJ6 Series III parked in front of the store and a lady was trying to get it started. It just wouldn't start, so when she saw me with the Jaguar shirt on, she asked me if I could help her. I said sure. She said this was her son's car and she could not figure out why it would not start. It ran fine up until then. My Dad and I got in and I tried to start it. It turned over just fine and seemed to want to start, but would not. Then, I looked at the gas gauge and it showed empty. I looked at my Dad and he looked at me and I remembered that XJs had twin gas tanks!! I looked for the switch-over button, hit it, turned the key and she started right up! My goodness, what a great feeling that was. The lady was so thankful and happy. My Dad and I talked about that for a long time. What a great memory that was.

So, anyway, I love Jaguars. Maybe someday, I will have one of those XJ6 Series IIIs. They are so lovely and I have a real connection to them as my story shows. I will enjoy perusing the classic Jaguar forums since those are the Jaguars that I know best. My thanks to all of you that keep these great cars going.

Best regards,
Joe in Pittsburgh

Welcome to the forums Joe,

Good to have you with us. Thanks for a great Intro.

Follow this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/e-type-xk-e-59/ to the E-Type forum for advice, information and to rekindle the memories. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues. Also take a look at the XJ6 & XJ12 Series I, II & III (https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...s-i-ii-iii-16/) forum. It could make "maybe someday" come round sooner.

You can also use the US Northeast Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/us-northeast-35/ to find other members in your region.

Please read the guidance for new members ( https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/n...ned-up-241802/ ) which answers many of the most frequent questions about getting started.

Enjoy the forums.
