Default Bought one today

Bought a 2004 X-type for my son today. He starts drivers ed in a couple of days and will be needing a car soon. I bought him a black one with the tan interior, 3.0 ltr engine, 49k for miles, and a one owner with service records. Car fax shows no problems with it. It does have performance type of tires on it that I will have to change when it gets up here. It is a Florida car and I am up here in Kansasville WI. (by Burlington WI home of Nestle chocolate and Tony Romo of the Cowboys) It seems to be a good buy. It was at Auto bank center in Miami. You can see it still on their web site. It even has the owners manuals. So hello form the cold country.

Mphy98: Wisconsin greetings to you. Great first car for a son! Although, by the time my sons come of age, their only hope of getting some behind the wheel time in a Jag is to use mine. And, thanks to this forum and a bit of luck, it will still be on the road! Cheers, Scott

Welcome to the Jag world! I hope your experience is as good as mine has been for the past (almost) 4 years. In exchange for the 'Jag joy' you can expect somewhat higher maintenance costs. But most but not all of us think it is well worth the difference. Everything costs more for a Jag: part, labor, fluid changes, etc. Even so, if you skimp on scheduled maintenance it will bite you big time later.

Welcome to this forum. You will be amazed how much you can learn and how helpful the members are. Enjoy!

Welcome to the site, be sure to check out the FAQ on the X type forum. If you don't know the transfer case is the weak link. Be sure to read up and I'd suggest changing the transfer case oil when you get it. I would also look into some winter tires and wheels if the tread is still real good on the summer tires that are on it.

Welcome to the forum. Great chcoice for a first car. We got our daughter an 03 S-type a few years ago after it became obvious how much she (not to mention the rest of the motoring public) would benefit from the traction control and other automatic systems. At a teen-driver skills course we put our oldest two kids through at Texas Motor Speedway, the school viewpoint was that AWD w/traction control was by far the safest car for beginning drivers, so you've got #1 covered. Interesting tidbit from the class, it was partially sponsored by a local Audi dealer so all the maneuvers were performed in new, 2009 Audi AWD's save a single rented Dodge Calibur utilized to demo some skids and slides the AWD's simply wouldn't do. Anyway, at the end they went round asking each child to annunciate something they'd learned and my daughter's now-forgotten response was pretty lame. On the way home, I asked her about it and her response, "Dad, what I wanted to say was "I learned those Audi's you're so proud of are pretty crappy compared to my Jag." but that would've been highly inappropriate." In fairness to my daughter, staff did do a fairly heavy-handed sales-job for the Audi's during the course, endlessly pointing out the shortcomings of the hapless Calibur, and how they were nonexistant in the superior Audi's.

Welcome, congarat and enjoy your Jag , make sure you read FAQs in X Type as stated and be easy on in because being a young driver might be tickling of full throttle launches and it hurts transfer case in long term
