Bought a 2004 XJ8 Vanden Plas for peanuts because it had no keys, title, registration at auction. The car was probably working before auction because it was an eviction. Initially I didn't write an intro because I figured (a) this would be OK to fix using internet if anything wrong and (b) I'll be selling it on.
How that has all changed. Its a relative nightmare which even the parts and service manager at my local dealership have no answers for some issues.
Really beautiful car and my missus deserves it because she runs the British American Business Council (BABC). A British car would suit her rather than the 1996 Lexus or beat up 2000 Tundra.
This is such an over engineered product. Many of the features have little benefit and really don't solve a problem. And don't talk to me about the cost of parts.
After 10-15 yrs the car is practically worthless and a simple fix with cost of parts can be more than the value of car. It becomes a throw away. That may be a bit facetious, but consider a small accident to my year and model. One side airbag goes off. To replace....costs $2200 (minimum) and requires Jag dealer to replace with another $1000 in labor. The trunk lock fails and part alone is $350 plus many hoops to jump through. Overhead console $500. Ridiculous. I don't know how this compares with comparable 'luxury' cars at same price point of that year.
I haven't made a definitive decision. My heart says keep it, but logic says get rid of it to a similar mug who is ruled by emotion. Then buy the car I nearly bought 20 yrs ago for $15K ....a restored XJ12C. I had the money in those days. The English guy in Florida said car was ready and when I got there it was anything but ready. I ended up buying a Jensen Interceptor to take me home since I only had a one way air ticket.

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.
I can see you've already found your way to the X350 forum so there's no need for a link to it from me. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues.
Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.
You can also visit the US Southwest Region forum by following this link US Southwest - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to find other members in your region.
