Default cam chain tensioners

When did jaguar start using the second generation cam chain tensioners on the xk8 4 liter v8 and do they have a history of failure like the first generation? I think the third generation tensioners are made of metal, started in 05 and do not fail. My xk8 is a 2000.

That question prompts another question, how many miles has your 2000 model done and is there any history of them being done?

Is there that little tale tail rattle after not being started for while and goes away after a few seconds? Other words are you worried that they need doing?

Year 2000 was a change year from nicasil too I believe. Eng Number would be handy.

Welcome to the forum Dennis M,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.

To answer your question - supposedly
August 13, 2001 at 08:13 ........ BUT there are several engines completed later which were fitted with plastic tensioners. The only way to be absolutely sure is to take off the covers and check.

Follow this link XK8 / XKR - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the XK8/XKR forum for help, advice and information.
The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for info on regular issues.

Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

You can also visit the USA Central Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/u...d-sd-ne-ks-36/

Welcome Dennis,
While the second generation secondary cam chain tensioners are better then the first. They still fail and the result can be catastrophic.
