Default Cat Hunter

Hello from San Antonio, TX! I’ve had my eye on Jags ever since my family moved to Singapore in the early ‘70s and my Dad bought a ’62 Mk 2, 3.4 liter—it was green with a black vinyl roof. I did my best to get him to ship it back to the states when we returned so I could drive it while in high school, but he was having none of that. I did remove the 7¾” leaper from the hood and I still have that adorning my desk.

Well, time marches on and although I’ve owned my red Toyota Supra Turbo for 27 years; I’ve been looking for the last 6 months for an XK coupe. So far I’ve been too late on the only two that have really caught my eye. 2007s seem to be the only thing for sale in the San Antonio area. I’m looking for either an ’08-’09 xkr—preferably red, or a ’10-11 xk.

I’ve been concentrating my search nationwide on Autotrader, Car Gurus and similar sites. I’ve also been lurking and keeping my eye on Jaguar Forums. If anyone can suggest happier hunting grounds, I’d be grateful to hear about them.

Until I find the xk that is right for me, I'll have to leave you with a pic of my beloved Supra.

As you're sufficiently motivated, I'm sure you'll find The One if you keep looking and don't 'settle.'
Pretty Supra; but I have a weakness for RED cars, second only to BLACK!

Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.

Welcome. I've been a Supra fan for just a little longer than you. I fell in love with the mk2 when they came out. I've owned nine Supras in all. Below are four, with a fifth unseen in the garage and a mk3 like yours under the cover behind. Eventually I decided concentrating all on one type of car was a bit insane, sold all but my first, the silver 85 in the pic below which I've kept. I've since diversified into Mustangs, Corvettes and even a Jaguar sedan.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome! Keep me in mind if anyone sees a '08-'09 XKR (preferably red) for sale in your area.

pdupler--glad to see another SupraManiac here—that’s quite an impressive stable! But you only know part of the story…

I owned a shiny new 1983 MkII back when I was a young lieutenant in Nav school. I sold it back to the dealer after a year when I was assigned to Guam as my first tour in B-52s. I liked the car too much to take it with me and watch it rust away. (I bought a ’70 Coupe de Ville to take with me, but that’s another story!) I sold the ’76 El Camino, which was already rusting, before I left California, but I still have the ’82 Yamaha Seca 750.

I bought the MkIII when I got back to the states in ’89. That’s my Dad & I with HIS MkII in the background. Weird to think I’m older now than he was when the picture was taken.

On another topic, does anyone know how to reach Whostorm05 directly? I tried PM’ing him but have not received a reply. I’ve got a couple of questions about his old XKR before I see it at the dealer in Indianapolis when I visit family this Thanksgiving.

Cool to see the old Supra pics. You do have me beat by a few years then. Good luck on your hunt for an XK coupe. I think its got to be about the most beautiful modern car.

Well, the search is over. I found our 2011 XK Coupe in Peoria, Illinois. The first owner put 25,700 miles on it. I put over 2,000 more miles on it on a circuitous route back to San Antonio. It's in near-pristine condition with only a couple of minor parking lot door dings. Claret exterior with Shadow Gray interior. It's Jaguar certified pre-owned with two more years of warranty coverage. We love it!

Looks great.

Good to hear you drove it home. It always amazes me how many US members have a vehicle delivered on a transporter if it's more than about 200 miles away!

I took mine on holiday this year and drove the 1900 miles from home in the north of England to the south of Spain in two days.
