Default Changed from a sensible car to my dreamcar. A Jaguar XJR 308 from 1999

Nice to have found this forum and I will undoubtedly use it a lot in the near future as it already useful to me now.

My name is Aron and since April 15 I am the proud owner off a very nice Jaguar XJR from 1999 with 89,000 km on the clock. I was able to buy these at Jaguar speciliast shop in the Netherlands called Exco and all important points such as chain tensioners, timing belt, water pump, fuel pump and hoses have been replaced. Compression is still perfect with the nikasil coating in the engine and there is little to no rust seen or felt. I am therefore very satisfied with the delivery of this car and there is also a 6-month warranty if some issues arise. Which of course is not to be expected with a Jaguar 😅.

This me with a big smile

I have been able to drive more than 1500 km (932 miles for you English folk) in the past few days and the ease of ride and comfort of this car is really great. And if you hit the gas, you have speed that I only experienced before on my motorcycle. My Fiat Bravo 1.4 with 120 hp is nothing. And yes the pump will be my greatest friend, but I already knew that.

Is the car really perfect? No not yet.

I want to tackle the following points:
- Upholstery can use a freshening up. Some dry cracks that I still want to get rid of.

- Replace the armrest for a model with cup holders.

- Throttle response when the engine is cold is intermittent. Keep a close eye on how this develops. Otherwise this will be warranty issue.

- Electric mirrors no longer open and close smoothly. It's more a jerking motion.

- There is a Parrot handsfree set, but I want to replace it.

- Was thinking about the Jagdroid solution and even reached out to Ben. But then I stumbled on Gopi's AUX install and it really shaved me some bucks and the sound is great. I have found a slightly easier method for Gopi install so I have added it to the thread.

- Building in something of a visible alarm, will probably only be an LED. Still might have a deterrent effect.

- Order a nice Jaguar key ring.

Okay so one last picture of my Jag near the tulip fields in Netherlands

Never seen a rural highway shoulder made out of brick pavers before. Of course here in Texas we didn't even bother to smooth out the old cattle trails before we just dumped a load of hot mix asphalt and put up a sign to show the highway number. Welcome aboard.

Welcome to the forums Aron,

Looks in great condition and in my favourite colour combination. I've had the same on several XJ's.

Follow this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/xj-xj8-xjr-x308-27/ to the X308 forum for help, advice and information. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues. You can also use the Europe Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/europe-42/ to find other members in your region.

Please read the guidance for new members ( https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/n...ned-up-241802/ ) which answers many of the most frequent questions about getting started.

Enjoy the forums.

Thank you for your replies. I think I have added all the parts to my bio.

I was actualy looking for a black XJR with black interior and brown walnut trim. However the technical state and low milage 55.000 (89.000 km) of this car was so good that i couldn't pas it up.
And the blue looks in my opinion as if the car is made for Royalty.

I did test drive in a black XJR but that had 13 previous owners, switched engine from a XKR, front damage that was repaired but the welds were clearly visible.
The performance was lackluster and the body roll was immense. This almost made me decide for a entirely different brand and car.
I just couldn't picture anyone enjoying the first XJR and be enthusiastic about it. So I had to drive a second one to confirm if it was just that car or the model in total.
Luckily I test drove this XJR and what a world of difference between the two cars.

I've usually had blue cars but always wanted a black Jaguar. There's few of any model before the current XJ available in the UK. Original buyers rarely specified black and it took me a long time to find an X308.

Never again. A beautiful car but needed to be washed every other day!

The black looks so good . Especially with that white line. Is that standard on all Jag XJ(R) 308?
In my opinion the chicken wire grill makes the Jag look a lot more aggressive . This is a tad to much chrome which makes the Jag look like a decent upstanding car.

The cleaning is recognizable. I have quite a lot of trees in front of my house which drop stuff and bloom all the time during spring, summer and fall. Well most is quite easily removed with a simple garden hose. So I have that which is nice.

Anyone that can recommend a high quality Bluetooth carkit with aux connectivity?
Was looking at something like this Was looking at something like this

And the smileys on this forum are something else

It's a Sovereign LWB. The coachline was actually silver. The NA engine models had the chrome grille and the SC models had the body coloured grille although original buyers could make a different selection if they wished.

I recommend you post the question about Bluetooth in the X308 model forum.

Your dream is becoming a reality! Aside from reality being somewhat "sub-optimal", that's all anyone can ask for! Nicely done, and welcome.
