Considering a 1999 XJR with 128K
A local dealer has a 1999 XJR with somewhat high miles, 128K. Because of this he is doing a sealed bid auction and the car, though very nice and straight and clean, will go pretty cheaply.
I'm just about fed up with my 1993 BMW 740i, which is really showing its age and high mileage (200K) and has just enough stuff going wrong with it that it may be time to let go. Engine is great, but electronics and climate controls are all going south.
The main thing I'm interested in on this site is the "common repair problems" spreadsheet, but I can't download it, I guess because I just joined.
If someone could email this to me at scottst at well dot com I would sure appreciate it.
If there is a convenient list of options for that year, and how to recognize them, I would appreciate that too.

My 2000 XJ8 has 80K and just breaking in. The common problems are listed all over the site, but for your model and year, there are some common ones:
Secondary Chain tensioners (Moderate Fix)
Water Pump (Easy fix)
Cylynder sleeves (little worry if it's taken care of)
If the dealer is letting you take a test drive or at least start it up, it can tell a lot. Is there previous owner documentation? Your going in blind, it's a great car to have, but be cautious. Inspect EVERYTHING!
Intake probably needs cleaning (sounds like it was a daily driver)

Still interested - How many miles on your XJR?
Looking online on cars.com autotrader.com and so on, I can't find an XJR with more than about 140K miles.
This does not bode well for the one I'm looking at, a creampuff, but it has 128K already...
Who has the most miles on their XJR?
Post it right here!
