Considering a purchase of a 2005 XJ8 Vanden Plas with 44,500 miles
I am considering a purchase of a 2005 XJ8 Vanden Plas with 44,500 miles on it. I am sold on the classic look and beauty of the car my only real concern is should I be afraid of a high cost of ownership potential? I live in Florida so it isn't cold and we have flat ground. We have a couple dealers in the area but I personally do not repair my own cars. What do you think and could you give me any advice.
Thanks,
Brent

Brent - welcome to the forum - I've moved your post to its own thread for better visibility.
As you are looking at the 2005 XJ8, you will find a wealth of info and support in the X350/X358 section
XJ XJ6 / XJ8 / XJR ( X350 & X358 ) - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum
Specifically take a look at this thread as well as the first few stickies at the top of the page:
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...d-know-112913/
For info on local events/news, check out the Lower Atlantic regional section:
USA Lower Atlantic - NC SC FL GA - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum
Lastly, recommend adding a signature to your profile by clicking the User CP link in the upper left. Once you have the Jag in the stable - edit to include model and year as that helps tech provide the best answers to your questions
enjoy!!

Hello, Brent,
The car you're considering is 10 years old. By now it's bound to need some attention, cars simply don't last forever without constant care.
My Jaguar is almost 40 years old. It isn't costing me any more than I would expect any other 40 year old car to cost to put back into proper condition.
The key is to not let the Little Irritations grow until they become BIG PROBLEMS! If there's a screw loose, tighten it Properly. If it won't tighten, find out why and fix that.
Ownership of an older car is always less if you can do at least some of your own work. The last time I took a car to the dealer I was 18, newly away from home, living in a basement apartment with no place to work on the car which had a burned valve on a straight 6 engine. (Had I still been at home I would have removed the head myself and taken it for repairs.)
That was a learning experience for my bank account I never wanted to repeat.
Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.

Welcome to the forum Brent,
Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.
Follow Steve's link in post #2 to the X350 forum for help, advice and information.
There's two kinds of Jaguar owners:
1. rich people who can afford dealer costs
2. DIY people who can do most, if not all, maintenance and repairs themselves
A good independent will keep costs to a reasonable level but a Jaguar is never going to be cheap transport.
