Coolant pressure

Coolant pressure
I have had a 2004 Xtype for two years: last year the radiator sprang a fast leak and this year the ‘return to reservoir’ hose started to leak.
I wonder if this is a sign of combustion pressures getting into the cooling circulation by means of a gasket leak?
How could I check the pressure, if this is a possibility?

Welcome to the forums Andrew,
Good to have you with us.
I'd eliminate the simpler (and cheaper!) possibilities of sticking thermostat or failing water pump before going to the level of gasket failure but a cylinder compression test and a cooling system pressure test together should give a you better idea. Once a Jaguar starts needing cooling system components replacing, it's usually the start of a full hose set etc.
I can see you've already found your way to the X-Type forum so there's no need for a link to it from me. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues. You can also use the UK & Eire Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/uk-eire-68/ to find other members in your region.
I've added vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. If you want to change these, go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.
Enjoy the forums.

Hello, Andrew,
Any radiator is under pressure if only from the water being hot. 16 years isn't a bad life time for the modern Plastic radiators. One might expect to be replacing such Plastic parts before now actually, so you're just about right on schedule.
Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.
