Cyanide, new here, 2006 S-Type 4.2 VDP
So, hello all;
I have finally gotten around to putting up a proper "new member" post.
I am in a major transition in my career, and with that, I had decided that I might as well get a respectible, as well as fun, car. My wife calls it a mid-life crisis. I find no crisis in it at all.
I have been talking of getting a new car for at least 5 years (since just before my last major career transition). However, a new house, expensive holidays for everyone else, many many many other expenses, had always gotten in the way.
So, there I am deciding between the Infinit G37, BMW 135/335, Hyundai Genesis Coupe, Altima etc (basically there is a trend from more expensive/less practical cars to less expensive/more practical cars as I find myself compromising more and more). Then, while out on a 96 hr moonlighting hospital shift, I come across an ad for a Jaguar. Its not what I was looking for, but it is gorgeous, and I wanted a Jag even from my youth. However, I had heard about all the mechanical gremlins that came with a Jag and that had turned me away from them for my entire adult life.
But, reading up on the improvements in reliability, and being able to really work the dealership down on the price of the car....I ended up making the plunge. An opulent car, with low mileage, reasonable performance and at a cut-throat price. How could I loose?!?!?!
Now...since the car has no warranty, I have found a good and reasonably priced mechanic and the car was inexpensive enough to avoid guilt....I am free to mod it into an even higher performance car, while mandating a maintenance of the opulence factor.
So, if you search my posts you will find me talking about:
supercharging
upgrading suspensions
upgraded brakes
paint-maintenance
limited slip differentials
These are mostly pipe-dreams. But, hey, those who dream, sometimes accomplish. Those who never dream, never accomplish. It is always useful to know when to sober up from a dream.
Cheers
John
(PS, I am all about learning and gaining from others experiences. If you have suggestions, or words of wisdom for me....I will greatly appreciate and warmly welcome every one)
Its probably reasonable to include a picture of the car, in a car oriented forum:

welcome
Hi John. Welcome to the Forum. In reading your introduction it's always good to hear that another person has discovered the Jaguar. I, not unsimilar to you had a long desire to own a Jag. I waited over thirty years to act on that desire. When I finally made the plunge it was to buy an older 1996 X300.
If low milage is a necessity for you that's fine, but I can tell you it will only mean that you can enjoy your car longer. I have 177,000 miles on mine and my mechanic tells me at a minimum I can expect another 60 to 80 thousand miles.
The key to the life of a jag is in the maintainence. I have my oil changed every two thousand miles or sixty days (which ever occurs first) and have it checked out in the late Fall and late Spring complete with a computer analysis in the Spring. So far the only problems I have had is tilt and telescoping steering wheel and a nagging AIRBAG light in the odometer area both of which I got great and accurate instruction on what to do.
Enjoy Your Jag! Poor Boy
