Did I just buy a Jaguar? Am I crazy??
Well, yes and no. :-) No I didn't buy it, but yes I'm probably crazy!
Greetings from Columbia, MD!
I was offered a 2000 S-Type V6 (sport pkg) for free from my brother's wife's father. Here's the low-down:
Never thought I would EVER own a Jaguar. I bet I look kinda silly driving around with a big grin on my face!

Greetings from Columbia, MD!
I was offered a 2000 S-Type V6 (sport pkg) for free from my brother's wife's father. Here's the low-down:
- 140K miles
- dealer-serviced, and supposedly well taken care of. It had bald tyres and was THREE quarts low on oil when I got it.
- Very good shape. Looks beautiful!
- I had to replace the infamous window regulator already. (sweat equity!)
- just put new Yoko Avids on
- Needs rotors all the way around. May try that one, too. (PLEASE tell me if I'm crazy)
- Getting 1386, 1388 engine codes. (I'll probably post this one separately, but feel free to comment. I suspect oil sludge, as I've read in another post)
Never thought I would EVER own a Jaguar. I bet I look kinda silly driving around with a big grin on my face!

welcome to the site and the world of craziness, good to have you here with us and thanks for a nice intro with good info!
Please check out the relevant section for your ride ( S type ) and you will find good info there, especially in the FAQ quick link thread. Some great guys there too
The off topic section can be fun and there's always the regional section so you can see who is around!
I've manually upgraded you to full forum access so you can better view all the sites features....

Look at it this way:
You can buy a used, hum-drum Toyota or Chevy and put new rotors on it, fix a few age-mileage related problems, and catch up on any maintenace work the previous owner neglected. In the end you end up with a nice ....yawn....Toyota or Chevy.
Or....
You can buy a used, always-wanted-one Jaguar and put new rotors on it, fix a few age-mileage related problems, and catch up on any maintenace work the previous owner neglected. In the end you end up with a nice JAGUAR. :-)
Cheers

If you can change a tire, you can change a rotor. Piece of cake. although I have not changed them on a Jag, they are pretty easy and changing shocks on my SUV was much more difficult. The rotors took about an hour total for both rears. Fronts, maybe a bit longer. For those of you with Jag experience, please correct me if I am off base. Oh yea, 2nd post and the UK has the best books and magazines period. They are just really expensive to get them here in the US. Congrats on the free car. It's usually me giving away the free car.
