Ex Jaguar Engineer (Ex Whitley) joined forum after having bought an AJ27 engined XJR
Greetings All!
This is an somewhat odd but exciting day for me: I've purchased an 2000 MY Jaguar XJR X308. After having spent just under 10 years helping to develop Jaguar powertrain- including the AJ26, AJ27, AJ33, AJ67, AJ37 and the AJ133 and having left that all behind when I emigrated- it feels highly nostalgic for me to be exposed to a car I was deeply involved with some years ago.
I have alot of fond memories of the X308 XJR, as a young graduate in my twenties, really putting these machines through their paces and optimising the engineering. It was a great time of learning. At the time I took Jaguars for granted. Since leaving, I have lived in Germany and in 3 parts of the USA. I now reside in the USA.
I have great plans for my Jaguar XJR and intend to keep it for a long time- developing it and adding technical features I would have loved it to have had from the outset! I feel I've come home and have a piece of comfortable warm England here at my door step in California.

The Jaguar XJ more in THIS country than the UK, I would say, has this very classy image and kudos.
People really don't realise just what good value these chariots are.
The truth is, I'll be moving again- back to the midwest very soon, at a high visbility job. When I was at the last interview, going out for dinner with the VP- I was driving my Dodge Ram and following him in his Caddy- I had just enthused at the interview about my work at Jag, and I got thinking I could own a Jag at a great price, stand behind my work and also 'develop' the car as the years progress and all the while the car would also present a nice high society image that suits my accent!
Most people who see a clean XJR (even an older X306 or X308) assume the car is worth 25 K or so.

Welcome to the forum!
Oh one other thing you need to put your car details in your signature. I am speaking of the Year, Make & Model. Without it you may not get the input you are looking for.
Please take a moment and read the information provided to you explaining the rules. Be patient and enjoy the site.

I bought a new 1971 Challenger with a 383 engine my last year in college--red with black vinyl top. Muscle cars produced insurance problems--and emission changes in 1972/1973 finished off these great cars. It's frightening what these cars are pulling in muscle car auctions these days--especially MOPARS.
Your 1970 was the best model year with the high compression engine. The 440 engine would eat a hemi in the 1/8th mile drag. In the last half of a quarter mile race, the hemi would barely clip them at the lights. A few modern improvements (ignition/headers/carb) would go a long way on this engine. There's no substitution for cubic inches, however.

That's right about the emissions that came out in 1972 & 73, I could toast any 400 magnum or 440 magnums in those years. Can't remember for sure if it was a 440 magnum or a 440 wedge?
Yeah, that 71 Challenger with a 383 was an awsome car too. I never raced a Hemi-Cuda, those were tough cars also.
Wow, what a great thread, I love this forum alot already!

Excellent. I owned a 1971 Road Runner with a 383, recurved ignition, headers and a Holly carb with vacuum secondaries. Man alive, even with an automatic trans it was more than enough for me (young kid) back in the day.
