Excited and tentative new to me 2003 STR owner
Greetings all, I've been lurking for just over a month, ever since I spotted this STR for sale. This forum has been most helpful as I've tried to learn more about my STR (pre and post sale). So here's the shortish version of my adventure so far. I saw this car on Cragslist Nashville - 2003 STR 84k, Nav, Clean CarFax and a Ford ESP warranty with ~12k/5 months left on it. The guy was asking $10k for her, so I went to have a look. After loving it from the start, my cautious side got the better than me and I told him I couldn't give him $10k for it because of my worries for repairs, maintenance, etc. He asked what I would pay, and I said $8500. After he couldn't sell it for 2 weeks he called me back and I got it for $8500. So I'm thinking that I got a great deal even if some issues creep up. Within a week I got a check engine light 20 miles after filling the tank for the first time. I went and got the codes read at AutoZone and it was P0171, P0174, P0301 and P0308 (if not for previously researching this forum I would have freaked out), I immediately made an appointment at the local Ford dealerships service center. It turned out to be those pesky valve cover gaskets, which in turn had fouled all the plugs and 3 coils. Amazingly the warranty covered the entire job, including a new set of plugs, which according to my warranty weren't covered. The total was only $110 including tax. I've only driven it around 50 miles since, but it is running great so far. Anyways I just wanted to share my adventure, and say thanks for all the great threads and info on this forum. I'm sure I'll come up with alot of questions to annoy you guys with in the future.

Welcome aboard. From what I know, and of course every market is a bit different, so you got a very good deal. If you don't know the maintenance history, I would do a 90K service and be sure to change all of the fluids including brake, power steering, coolant, trans, etc. You will then have yourself a nice R that you will probably enjoy for quite some time.
Post some pics when you can to show her off.
