Default First time Jag owner

I'm 31 years old and from Texas. I grew up in the 80's and 90's so naturally I miss the way cars were built back then. As I got older I desired comfort over looks. I was almost ready to settle for a 2000 on up sedan, but wasn't ready to convert to the plastic. I took my chance on the Jag because I've always liked them and it fit my criteria, price, and honestly it just seemed like it was meant to be. I did my homework and took on the risk because I know it's worth it. I joined this site because I believe in networking and learning from the experienced and passing on knowledge. I look forward to seeing all of the knowledge and learning. Thank you.

Hi Roob0481,

Welcome to the Jaguar Forums! I see on your profile that you have a '94 XJ6. We'll see you in the XJ40 forum!

It's a good idea to add your car year, model and engine displacement to your signature so others won't have to look it up. Hover your cursor over your username in the upper right corner of this page, and in the dropdown menu click User CP. In the left column of your Control Panel under Settings & Options select Edit Signature and add your vehicle details.

Cheers!

Don

P.S. I deleted your duplicate post so all replies will be in the same thread.

Default Feeling welcomed and motivated

Don B. thank you for the quick tutorial on my signature and deleting my extra post. I had a feeling I had done that, I'm still finding my away around here. Question for you Don B. Is the XJ40 forum referring to the engine? I'm still learning and had no idea there are so many different variations to each Jaguar class. LnrB and o1xjr thank you both for the welcome also.

Hi Roob0481,

No problem on the duplicate posts. Happens to us all. Just for future reference, one of the best things about the design of the Jaguar Forums is the ability to edit your posts after you submit them. At all the other forums I've been part of, once you submit the post that's it: your words are in stone forever, and if you misspell a word, or fail to describe something as clearly as you could have, it's too late. You have to submit another post to correct your error. Not so here!

Regarding the term XJ40, that is the factory code Jaguar gave to the model that was introduced in the U.K. in 1987 and in North America in 1988. Prior models of the XJ6 had been known as the Series I, II and III. The revised model launched in 1995 was given the factory code X300. The X308 with the first Jaguar V8 engine came along around 1997 as the XJ8, and the aluminum-bodied X350 was introduced as a 2003.5. There are other sub-model designations for cars with V-12, Diesel or supercharged engines.

In general, the details that will help other members know how to answer questions about an XJ40 are model year (1987-1994), model (XJ6 or XJ12), and engine displacement (2.9L/3.2L/3.6L/4.0L/6.0L).

Occasionally, when discussing interior trim and some exterior items, it's necessary to know the trim level of the car (Base, Sovereign, Vanden Plas/Daimler, Majestic).

This article will give you some history:

Cheers!

Don

Welcome to the forum Roob0481,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.

I can see you've found your way to the XJ40 tech forum so there's no need for a link to it from me.
The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for info on regular issues.

You can also visit the USA Southwest Region forum by following this link USA Southwest - AZ TX NM OK - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum
to find other members in your region.

Enjoy the forums.
