Smile Fresh from under the Jag...

I just rolled out from under my son's 1990 XJ40 Sovereign XJ6 (Hope thats how it goes.)

We had a good day together putting new bearings and seals in the rear diff output shafts. Not too bad of a job, considering the shop quoted $1000 to have it done.

We didn't get to test drive it yet, as the rear diff still needs fluid and we ran out of daylight. Plan is to get the gear lube in and take it out for what we hope will be a quiet test drive!

I live in Salt Lake City area. Moved here 20 years ago and never managed to leave again. Look forward to learning from those with great experience and even those like me who just go for it with no experience!

Cheers,

Corey

Hello Cory, welcome to the forum. Ah Salt Lake, beautiful area!!!

That is great that you AND your son are working together, brings me back to days of old with my father. Great memories!

Good luck with your project and I will keep my fingers crossed.

Default Woohoo!

:icon_ pimp:

Niiice and quiet!! All that crawling around on the ground paid off!

We couldn't have done it without the information we found here! Thank you so much. The car is a dream to drive now. I've never been in a car that had such a great.

One small thing is that the car pulls a little to the right now. It didn't before we fixed it. There is also a very faint rubbing sound. Is it possible that we did something that could cause the right rear caliper to drag?

Oh well, small potatoes compared to what we did get accomplished!

YES! Searching posts here was a huge help in getting the rear end noise figured out.

Thanks everyone and I will try and get a good pic by next week. Looking the car over it needs a little tlc and it should be good as new. Motor is excellent and very quiet. One can hear the individual injectors firing at idle with the hood up!! Full access; sweet!
