Frustrated First Time Jag Owner
Hello all, I know that this is a Jag enthusiast site and I can see why. I bought my brother-n-law's 2000 S-type Jag and have had it for 2 weeks. We got it for my wife to drive but I had a chance to spin around the last couple of days. I love the way it drives and feels on the road but I now have a problem.
This morning on her way to work the "failsafe engine mode" light came on and it has absolutely no throttle response. I believe it flashed on last night when I drove it but really no change in how it drove. Today however, she returned home with much difficulty. I am looking for a code reader that can help me determine the cause and need some assistance. Based on what I have read today, I believe the problem to be either the throttle position sensor or something in the throttle body.
Please Help!!!

you have to help out with some more info though, codes would be a good start if you can provide them as Brutal says

Codes you want...codes I just got
Thanks guys,
Two codes actually but I think only one that is causing limp mode.
P0455 - Evaporative Emission System Leak Detected (gross leak/no flow)
P1576 - Pedal Position not Available
I have my thoughts but I sure could use some advice from other DIYers out there.
Thank You
Jeff

you need a new gas pedal assembly. the sensor for pedal position is not avail seperatly. good news its only 2 or 3 10mm nuts and a wire connector to replace. you can either get a new 1 from nalley jaguar (site sponsor)or a used 1.
and check your gas cap for tightness and a good seal. clear codes and go from there

Check your cruise control and see if it's working. If not, you made need to replace the brake light switch which is only around $65. Had the same issue with my XK8 and after having the throttle body sensors cleaned the problem remained. Found another post here that made reference to the brake light switch. Changed it out and everything is and has been AOK for months now. Worth a try.

NEITHER OF THOSE CODES HAS ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE BRAKE SWITCH.
THE PEDAL POSITION SENSOR HAS TO DO WITH THE GAS PEDAL IN THE CAR, NOT THE THROTTLE BODY. IT LIKE THE THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR(TPS) HAS MULTIPLE TRACKS. AND WHEN THERE IS A DISCEPANCY BETWEEN THE TRACKS IN EITHER THE TPS OR PPS YOU GET LIMP HOME SINCE IT IS A SAFEGAURD AS THE CAR IS A FLY BY WIRE AND DOES NOT HAVE A CABLE TO THE THROTTLE BODY. (THINK TOYOTA UNINTENDED ACCELERATION, WHICH I STILL DONT THINK HAPPENED AS THERE ARE TOO MANY REDUNDANT SAFEGAURDS. FAT FOOTED YES, MISTAKING THE PEDAL YOURE ON, YES. CAR JUST ACCELERATES ALL BY ITSELF WITH YOUR FEET NO WHERE ON EITHER PEDAL, NO)
