This place is great. There is so much knowledge on this forum and I hope to get lots of use from it.

I just bought my first car. It's a 1998 Jaguar XJ8 Sovereign with 128k.(previously drove dad's 1988 GMC Sierra truck)
It has a few issues, most of them being cosmetics. The car does need some mechanical things fixed. For example I had a trusty transmission shop look at the car because of a whine noise coming from the trans and they said it needs the fluid and the filter changed.

This makes complete since because the person who had it before me treated it horribly. I plan on doing a chain, water pump, VVT solenoids and other things when I can.

I gave $2,400 for the car and have people already asking if the car is for sale. My biggest concerns are the error codes I am getting, being P0171, P0174, and P1397. The guy before me said he just changed the fuel pump but I don't trust his work, so I will look at that when I get time.

The air filter looks like the original so it needs changed and I will clean up the MAF sensor. The car does run rough when first started, but then runs great.
It also has a knocking sound when first started and then goes away.

I plan to ask for help on these things in the appropriate threads, but wanted to give a good introduction of my car first.

I am a college student studying Computer Information Sciences, and I live in Kansas.

Welcome to the forum,

Great Intro and congratulations on the XJ8.

You've identified the regular issues with the V8 and will find plenty of help and advice in the X308 section.

Remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User ID button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

Welcome to the forum.

Long blocks of text are rather hard on the eyes, and the guys will tend to not read them.

Please include some double line breaks in your future postings. (might also help your 'Proff's reading your assignments).

As per GGG the X308 section will help you out.

Best of luck.

Hi there and welcome to the forum, good to have you here with us

Just FYI - I've edited your post as large blocks of text without spaces or breaks tend to get people swithced off real fast.

I've simply broken it down a little as you can see, making it more readable for all, which hopefully means you get better and more responses.

There's a really great mix of information, camraderrie and fun here.....

I've manually upgraded you to full forum access so you can better view the whole site and all its features so Jump on in and enjoy the site.................
