Greetings from Houston by way of Mississippi
Howdy, all.
As the title and name suggest, I'm a Mississippian who has resided in Houston for the last ten years practicing law. I grew up enamored with European cars thanks to my father and his love for fun sports cars. Between the 70's and 80's we owned BMW's, Porsches, Mercedes, Triumphs, MG's, Audis, Alfas, Austin Healeys and, of course, Jaguars.
His funeral was eight years ago today. He would have turned 73 on Monday.
My father was well respected in our hometown and at his funeral, the receiving line was over 90 minutes long. At one point, a man who used to work on my Dad's cars handed me a picture of my Dad inspecting his E-type after the mechanic had just painted it. The mechanic said that the picture had been in his office since 1978. It's a treasured possession of mine (especially after Katrina took away most of our pictures and possessions). I'll post it here soon.
What practicality, frugality and reserved sensibility I possess all came from my mother. That's why for the last 20 years, I've driven two Hondas and two Acuras.
Well, that changed last week when I said to myself, "I could die tomorrow having never owned a Jaguar." The blue XF Premium you see in the picture is my new-to-me 2010 edition with 45k on the odometer. When I test drove it, the ride, the speed and the engine growl all put a smile on my face. My wife was insistent that I buy the car. I'm lucky.
I look forward to meeting some of you online and maybe in person. I hope to learn a good deal from the community.
As Mark Twain said, "Apologies for the long letter, I didn't have time to write a short one."
Thanks,
John
