Greetings from Music City
I'm a new member today to the forums...I was motivated to post today having received a few photos of my new ride from the detail shop. I was supposed to pick it up yesterday but a busted lug nut delayed things. It's a 2016 F-Type S Conv, AWD, IRR. I decided to use a shop in Knoxville, Tn called Knox Details (Knox Details) to apply Xpel film and C Quartz coating to the car. Not sure if the difference is visible in the photos, the first two small sized pics are of the car at the dealer before the applications; the last two photos show the car just before the last C.quartz coat is to be applied. Car is looking fantastic and I can't wait to get it...can't recommend enough this detail shop and its owner, Tim Buxton-- great service and an owner who really cares about his customers. Ditto for the service at Harper Porsche Jaguar, just great folks all around.
Despite living in Middle Tennessee I headed east for the opportunity to test drive a stick F-type at the Harper dealership. Having test driven the V6S with both auto and stick, and the V8, I ended up feeling more comfortable in the V6S with the auto. That surprised me in several ways. I was convinced before the test drive that the manual tranny would be the way to go for me. Turned out that I while I felt ok with the manual, I could not believe how good the auto felt...first time in my 40 year driving history that I could say I really liked an auto transmission. No longer will I use the term "slushbox" to describe the experience with this auto. And I liked the lighter feel of the V6S and the exhaust soundtrack sounded better to me that the V8. To each his own but for me the V6S auto was the sweet spot.
I've never owned a Jag before, but I did get the chance to spend an afternoon in an old E-type back in high school in 1978 with a buddy whose father owned the car. It looked more or less like the attached picture and I think the memory of that day somewhat influenced my search of a new car now. Way before Ferris, we had a similar day, minus the wreck at the end of it. My buddy and I snuck his dad's car out while his folks were out and had an absolute blast bombing around the country roads. His dad apparently didn't get filled in on the details of the day until a couple of years ago when I had a brunch with his family. He told the story from his point of view, and then was surprised to hear me fill in some details...he had no idea until then that I was the passenger that day. We all enjoyed a great laugh...better that result than if he had heard about it back in the day. I don't know that laughs would have ensued back then.
