Greetings from New Mexico
I am a new member who bought the second Jaguar in my life this past Saturday, 7/21/2012.
My first Jag was a 1964, 4.2 XKE Convertible that I restored and drove in the late 70s while on active duty in the US Navy stationed in Mountain View, CA (Moffett Field). I truly loved that car. I received orders for an extended tour of duty in Japan and decided to sell the Jag. Big mistake - I should have put it in storage.
I have had a yearning for a rag-top Jag ever since.
Saturday, 7/21, I became the proud owner of a red, 2000, XK8 convertible with 33,000 or so miles. It was too good a deal to pass up. I traded my 2006 Harley Davidson Road Glide + some cash for it.
After driving it for a couple of days I have discovered a few problems. I am going to take it to Malloy Jaguar tomorrow to get them fixed. It runs great! So I hope these problems aren't going to cost me a fortune. I plan to keep this car forever!
If anyone out there knows a good, reputable, Jaguar mechanic in the Albuquerque, NM area I would appreciate knowing about him.
I have posted pics at "MY Garage" but don't know how to post pics here.
Anyway, I am a newbie here and just wanted to say, "HI" to everyone at Jaguar Forums.

Welcome! I bought an 08 XK from Melloy a few months ago. So far my experience with the dealership has been excellent. They've been easy to deal with and haven't given me the slightest bit of grief. It's been very easy to get the car in for service (only had a few warranty items taken care of so far) but they've been very quick in dealing with the few issues I've had.

Welcome to the forum,
Another member of the 'wish I'd kept the XKE' club. There's many of us here.
Congratulations on the XK8. Gray XK gives a recommendation for Melloy so looks like you'll be OK there.
Always a good plan to search or post a question in XK8/XKR section about any faults before going to the dealer. Sometimes the fix will be easy and you can save a few $$. Other times it won't be so easy but you'll know exactly what questions to ask the dealer and the answers you should be getting.
Remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User ID button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

Hi all,
I live in ABQ as well and am a new jaguar owner. I bought my 90 XJS convertible from a man in SC. He told me that one of the previous owners was psychotic about maintaining the vehicle. After getting "Ms Kitty" home to NM, I don't know that I agree with him. The car is in great shape all things considered, but a lot of the issues it has are related to not taking very good care of the car.
I consider myself very minimally mechanically inclined, but so far all the repairs I have been able to do myself. My biggest challenge was replacing the rack/pinion. That took me a couple of months to figure out, get the replacement and get it in. I learned a lot in doing it (mostly that I never want to do that again).
If any of you ever want to get together socially over our Jags, drop me a line.
