Hi all,
I've been researching my first Jaguar purchase and am most likely about to push the button on a 1997 XJR with about 70k miles ... though a 2003 X308 XJR (for more than twice the money) is also looking very tempting.
The thing is (as one might notice from my screen name), I'm a bit of a fan of inline six-cylinder engines. The longest-running and most trouble-free cars I've owned have all been inline sixes. These include a 1995 W140 Benz S320, 1994 E34 BMW 525i wagon, 1984 E28 BMW 733i, and going way back, a 1969 Plymouth Belvedere. I've run all of these cars well past 200k miles.
Now, the right Jaguar seems to offer incredible bang for buck and it feels currently like it's a buyer's market. Really like the ride on the ones I've test-driven, and research done by lurking on this forum has proven incredibly helpful in knowing what NOT to make an offer on, and what to expect for repair and maintenance.
For anyone who wants to know, the other vintage machines I find fascinating are keyboard instruments such as the Hammond organ, Moog synthesizers, and the like.
I look forward to spending more time here. Best regards,
Stephen in Oakland

Well, I pushed the button on something much nicer than any other Jaguar I'd looked at, and am now the proud owner of my first Jaguar: a 1997 XJ6 VDP that's been well maintained and has only 80k miles. Had a quick inspection from a highly respected Jaguar servicer in my area (Continental in Oakland), who gave it a clean bill of health. Have an appointment for a full inspection in a couple of weeks. The interior is especially immaculate.
Initial driving impressions are essentially, "Oh my God, why haven't I known about this all my life?" Flawless, elegant drive home from where I picked her up 150 miles away.
More pictures to come in the next couple of days. Couldn't be happier with this find. Her name is Lady Merlot.
