Default Greetings from Ohio

Mike, in Dayton, Ohio. I have owned five previous Jaguars, a 75 XJ!2 converted to Chevy V-8 power, an 84 XJS-HE, a 92 XJ6 VDP, a 2002 X-Type, and a 2003 S-Tyoe. All were daily drivers, more or less, and all performed well. I believe that every one was driven beyond 150,000 miles. Having been without a Jag for about 4 years, I decided to jump back in and bought a 2001 XKR that I found on Craigslist. I broke just about every rule for doing this; I bought the first car I saw, I didn't have any inspections, and it has no formal documentation.

However, the guy who sold it to me is a professional exotic car mechanic, who had it as his personal car for about a year. In that time, he tells me he replaced the following: the timing chain tensioners with the latest ratcheting type, the water pump, the hoses to the top latch (he told me he had experienced the dreaded green shower in a previous car, very nasty), the front shocks, one front wheel bearing (the other had been done), some front end bushings, and the valve covers. The transmission and rear end have been serviced, and engine oil charged. The car has very good paint, a new top, and an interior in as good a condition as you could possibly expect. New Bridgestone Potenza tires. It has 100,000 miles, and everything seems to work. He included a spare throttle body and a spare supercharger, both very expensive parts. I paid $7500.00, which seems like a steal to me.

Car runs great, is damn fast, tremendous grip, and very few rattles. There is a persistent slight oil leak, apparently from a valve cover, that still needs attention. Otherwise it seems good to go.
Should be fun for cruising, and car shows in the spring. Dayton has a great British Car Show in August.

Welcome to the forum Mike,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.

The work list from the PO covers all the regular suspects apart from what sounds to be a leaking cam cover seal. Follow this link
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/xk8-xkr-x100-17/ to the XK8/XKR forum for help, advice and information. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues.

Please add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

Hello, Mike,
Congratulations on your new Jaguar! and a 'vert at that!
It sounds like a deal well done to me. In fact, I've decided this will be my Next Jaguar.

Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.
