Happy accidental XK8 owner
Hi everyone, my name is Paul, I live in Manassas VA and I'm a new Jag owner. I restore old MG's as a past time.
I have a 1950 MG TD and a 1954 MG TF that I have restored to as close to original as possible. I am currently restoring a 1936 MG P type that was raced at Brooklands before WW2, so I am fairly familiar with odd but strangely effective British engineering and oil leaks.
So, I went out last week to look at for an MGB to use as a summer driver, and bumped into a friend who was selling his spotless Topaz and Parchment 40K mile 1999 XK8, and to cut a long story short I now own it.
The Jag has had some preemptive work done 2 years ago at around 26K, 3rd gen timing chain tensioners, water pump, thermostat housing. It has recently had the top lift cylinders rebuilt, a pressure relief valve installed, rear axle seals replaced, all hoses and belts, along with a decent JVC sound system.
I did a compression check yesterday after reading about Nikasil and high sulfur gas prior to 2007. I'm getting 163 +/- 4 PSI across the 8 cylinders. Based on a 10.5:1 compression ratio and 90 F air temps that seems close enough.
Its a great driving car I am very happy, and with the traction control turned off, it likes to get a little tail happy with a lot of right foot...perfect.
I am please to have found this Forum, there is a wealth of information and technical help available to make owning the XK less daunting for an old MG guy. Next is to go install the oil and temperature "Real Gauge" kits and see what is on the market to tweek the suspension a bit and perhaps a cat back exhaust system with a bit more noise :-).
I will post pics later today, if it ever stops raining in VA.
Doe anyone have a recommendation for a N. VA or WDC Jag owner club.

Welcome to the forum Paul,
Great Intro. Looking forward to seeing pics of your collection.
The XK8 sounds to have all the right maintenance boxes ticked. I know you've already found the XK8/XKR tech section so no need for a link from me. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top there is a good place to start for info on regular issues.
Remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.
You can also visit the US Mid Atlantic Atlantic Region section by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/mid-atlantic-md-va-dc-de-wv-65// to find other members in your region.
Enjoy the forum.

As GGG recommended, first check out the mid-Atlantic section https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/mid-atlantic-md-va-dc-de-wv-65// of this forum...we do have occasional get-togethers.
This is the local Jaguar club chapter: Nation s Capital Jaguar Owners Club Page
Also, you are welcome to contact me at whitexkr@comcast.net. I am nearby in Arlington, VA. I would be happy to install your RealGauge if you prefer not to DIY, and also share my knowledge about the car. I have an AutoEnginuity Jaguar scanner and can give your car a free electronic checkup.
