Hello to all from Wooster, Ohio USA
Hello fellow Jaguar enthusiasts and owners. I'm new to the Jaguar world and very happy to be a part of it. I thought I'd share my story how I became a Jaguar owner. My two prior cars were Lexus LS's, the latest being a 2002 Lexus LS-430 which was a beautiful black Ultra Edition with chrome wheels and a grey burl wood interior. I loved that car and received compliments on it regularly. But as I looked to replace it with a newer LS I decided I just couldn't live with the front grill that Lexus has chosen for its new design.
Another reason to look beyond Lexus, at least for me, is that they're everywhere. When I bought my first Lexus, an LS-400, in 1997 it was the first and only LS in my town of (then) 24,000 people. As I did back then I wanted a car that is distinctive.
So back in September of 2015 my wife and I were driving from West Texas back to Ohio somewhere on I-44 in Oklahoma when a gorgeous black car buzzed by that I did not recognize. I remember vividly thinking, "What is that?!!!" It took me a few miles to catch up to find out that it was a late model XJL. I was hooked. I told my wife that I found my next car.
So, over the next many months (I'm a researcher. It takes me, according to my wife, "forever to make a decision".) I zeroed in on options, interior/exterior color, engine, etc. that I wanted. So, in August of 2016 I found three 2015 CPO XJL's in Stratus Grey with Ivory interiors that had the Supercharged 6 in various parts of the U.S., one of which was in San Francisco and it only had 3,900 miles. It just so happened that we were going to be in SFO in a few weeks. Long story short, that's the one I bought and I had it shipped back to Ohio.
It was quite the event in my neighborhood as it was off-loaded from the car carrier. Neighbors came out to watch the driver take if off the top rack. (I had my eyes closed and my fingers crossed!) Fortunately, no scratches or issues.
The only other Jaguar I've seen in town so far is an XF. I've had many people check out the XJL in parking lots looking as if they're not quite sure what it is. I've had a few people ask to see the car. They're always impressed by the "Leaper" on the display when opening the car door, the automatic door closers, the spacious interior and, of course, the general look of the car.
My wife and I have taken a few trips with the car and now have 9,800 miles on it. I love the handling and power. But more than anything I love the style. It says "Jaguar" from any angle!
As for me I recently retired. My wife and I have done a bit of travelling, but mostly just doing those things around our home we haven’t gotten around to doing the past many years.
My wife and I both enjoy reading and music. I play the drums, although not currently with any band. In addition to 60’s/70’s rock, R&B, blues, I particularly like smooth jazz, although finding smooth jazz musicians in north central Ohio is quite difficult.
Looking forward to communicating with you all on the forum. Regards to you all.
