Hello from Arizona
In advance, I apologize for the politics of my state! That out of the way, I am currently in the market for another car. Right now I have two main options. First, the "safe" one which is either an Infiniti G35 Coupe or the M35. Both are nice cars, no doubt. But like all the Infiniti/Lexus/Acura models, they're just fancy versions of their more, dare I say pedestrian, brothers and sisters. Which is perfectly fine, for sure. I guess.
Right now I drive an '01 BMW Z3 roadster, which I do love a lot. Unfortunately it's not super practical since I have two kids that need carting around on a regular basis. So I'd like it to be a weekend/holiday driver when it's just me and the missus and we want to cruise around with the top down. So either of the Infiniti's I mentioned would be a perfectly serviceable and even enjoyable cars to drive.
That said, the XJ8 has begun to capture my imagination as an alternative. I'm looking for one around the 2006 range, as that places them into what I am looking to spend. However, to me this feels less "safe". I've heard all the usual stories about Jags being in the shop half the year and all that stuff. I'm sure that's a fair amount of hyperbole and I know they have changed a lot over the years. Still, I don't yet have an opinion of them yet that I would call informed. I would like to change that.
So, sorry for the long-winded post, but I was hoping people could offer some insights into what they have experienced with their Jaguars, especially their first one. Also, any specific advice about the '06 XJ8's would be great and finally.. anyone from Phoenix?
Thanks!

Hi,
Welcome to the forum - Apologies for politics?...Hmmm...Well, as the saying goes...something about politics and religion.
XJs are beautiful cars. An 06 XJ would be the X350. This car is a technological marvel, although some would say a nightmare, just a matter of perspective.
I've owned several Jags (and a Z3 too), of the 3 Jags I presently own, I wouldn't give up any, but if were forced to give up two, the X350 wouldn't even be a consideration.
All the Best,

Hello and welcome. I had the same concerns you do not so long ago but I took the plunge anyway and I'm so glad I did. I have a 99 XJ8 VDP. I love it. One of the best cars I've owned and that's no small deed I've owned over 40 and of all makes and models. There are some things to watch out for but that can be said for any make. Do some research and make sure you take an objective test drive don't fall in love with it. There are plenty to choose from out there, and get a car with no excuses.

Welcome iconist. Research is always the best bet. Remember, we all tend to turn to the forum when we have difficulties and often forget to post when we absolutely love our Cat. Make sure you take in some complimentary posts as well.
Pretty much Jag heaven down your way isn't it? I bought my kitty from Jag North Scottsdale and drove it 1400 miles home. They were absolutely great to deal with. Gavin Hill was the sales guy's name. Should be some '06s coming back off lease. Get the warranty and go enjoy.

Hi Iconist, I had a 2005 super v8. Of the few years that i had own it, it's been great. I would recommend a XJR, since I think you want it to be practical and fun to drive at the same time. It should cost no more that the G35 for a 2006.
My daughter love the DVD future of the car and I love the style and hp of the car. I had not have much problem with the car other than having to change the coolant expansion tank due to a crack on the plastic fitting ($170, and half hour of work), and a throttle assembly that was replaced by factory at no cost.
I hear horror stories about the Jag too, but I just had to have it after the test drive. But talking to the service tech, I found that most o4 and after models have improved a lot as far as quality control, and don't come into the shop like they did.
I did bought a fully covered service plan with $250 deductible for 4 yrs and 50k for less than 4k when the factory warranty was about to expired, just to be on the safe side. So far I had 50k on the Jag and it's still a lot of fun. And yes, it's my first Jag. i had a town-car before this. Hope this help.
