Hello from Cairns, Australia.
G'day to everyone reading. Recently became a jaguar owner, a first for me. Bought a bit of a fixer upper for $600aud and hope to be able to get it registered and cruising again! It's a 1989 xj40 3.6 sovereign, Japan import so it has cats and an o2 sensor 🙁 however it starts and goes (kind of), the digital dash works and it's in overall rust free condition with 105,000km on the clock.
As for what's wrong, well the old lady who owned it backed into a pole and ruined the bumper and mount, the interior has seen better days, neither of the blowers work at all (although the compressor kicks in) and it's currently running super rich and blowing enough soot to worry Al Gore.
About myself: I'm a 23 yr old air traffic controller, recently moved to Cairns for a short stint here before returning to Brisbane, and I love motorcycles. Currently have a Moto Guzzi Griso 1200 as a daily, an Aprilia Falco for weekends and a Honda Nc750 for the missus. My daily car is a VW Polo Gti, and the only other "classic" car I've owned was a 1984 Mercedes 230TE which I sorely regret selling.
Hope to enjoy my time with the Jag and a big thank you to all the forum members here for the plethora of helpful advice already available.

P. S. As a note, as far as I can tell the rear hydraulic suspension works. The merc wagon I owned also had SLS at the back but I have no idea how similar it is to the Jaguar system. A pump driven by the camshaft provided pressure, a valve was placed on the rear axle with an actuator arm bolted to the sway bar, and a pair of spherical accumulators like a Citroen acted on each rear shock. Is the xj40 system similar but shared with the brakes?

Welcome to the forum Joe,
Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.
Looks familiar damage - a lady drove into the back of my XJ40 at a roundabout:
That was twenty years ago. As I recall it was an easy repair although her insurance took care of it.
I can see you've already found your way to the XJ40 forum so there's no need for a link to it from me. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues.
Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

Welcome to the forum Joe. Great to see another biker buying a Jag, gives you something to play with when the bikes are running sweet.

Funny you should say that actually as that's precisely the reason I bought the car! For once all the bikes are ticking along and don't require any servicing.
