Smile Hello from Cambridge

Hi, Been driving an X type 2.2 Estate since 2007 and today is the first time I have had a serious problem. I joined the forum to see if others had experienced the same and it was very useful. Looking forward to chatting to like minded people and exchanging info and ideas.

Alan

It's a interesting one.. The clutch pedal suddenly won't return, and we just left a pool of fluid all over a posh hotel car park !! There was no deterioration of operation, it just went wrong today.. Could be worse I suppose, at least it got us all the way here before breaking down on arrival. I'm thinking master or slave cylinder failure but either way it a relay truck home.

The forum is operated by IB (Internet Brands) based in Los Angeles who host a large number of automotive internet sites.

However we have members from all over the World.

Better to happen in the hotel car park rather than on the road home.

It'll be a master / slave cylinder or pipe. Will you be doing the repairs yourself?

Alan,

I was wondering why until I checked JTIS:

Hello from Cambridge-x-type-clutch.jpg

(click on the image to enlarge it)

"The central slave cylinder is fixed to the clutch housing with three bolts, together with an integrated release bearing. The release bearing is a press - fit on the clutch slave cylinder............."

Who on earth dreamed up a setup like that!

Someone who doesn't want us ordinary blokes fixing their own cars. I'm taking it to a guy in Peterborough who does a good job without the dealer rates for labour charge.
