Default Hello from an European X300 fan

Hello all,

My name is John and I am from Belgian guy living in the Netherlands, Europe.
Registered here because of the amazing wealth of information around Jaguar cars.
I owned 2 Jaguar's X300, a 3.2 Sport and a 4.0 Sovereign. The 4.0 I still have and will use as the vehicle to dismantle so I have spares for the rest of my life.

Currently looking again for a third X300 to use as a daily driver as I am convinced about the bombproof quality of the cars regarding gearbox and engine(if well maintained)
Especially on the look out for a Daimler Six or a Jaguar XJR with the chrome trim(sadly very rare in Europe).

Also love the XK8 but a bit worried about the electronics and Nikasil liners in pre 2001 cars. But am going to have a look at one on Tuesday where gearbox and tensioners have been replaced, so maybe its a reliable one.

Kind regards,

John

Welcome from Ireland, where the x300 is not so common also, largely due to the annual road tax @ €2,000.00 per annum. But still, you can't take it with you. Good luck in your search.

Many thanks for the warm welcome all!

And my sincere apologies for the grammatical errors. Should have used a spellchecker before posting

Concerning the taxes in Ireland, I am amazed. I always thought since roadtaxes in Great Britain were extremely low, this would be the same for Ireland.

In Belgium for a Jaguar XJ 4.0 you pay 1962 € yearly for the roadtax
In the Netherlands 1120 € for that same car...

So I moved to the Netherlands

Welcome John.

I'm sorry it costs so much for road tax there, and in many places. If that were true here, I wouldn't have a trio at all! At least not a roadworthy trio.

See you in X300land!

Welcome John.

I have to agree on the bombproof of the X300.

Most of the Nikasil issues have probably well and truly gone by now, with a lot of replacement engines sorting that. Only the odd "keeper" in someones private stash would have slipped by I reckon. We had very little issues with that down here, and the fuel we have, appeared to be the saviour from what I hear.

Road tax, WOW.

I pay $680/year for each Jag. Thats Aussie $ by the way.

Grant, the SA government is generous. I pay $826 for each of the 6 cyl cars and just under $700 for the 4.

Welcome John ... warm greetings from another Jaguar enthusiast "down under" ... and also one looking long and hard for an XK8 or XKR.

Best wishes,
Ken

A late 'Welcome' to Jaguar Forums from me John.

I've been away driving my XK from UK to southern Spain and back.
