Default Hello Everyone

Over the years I have owned many Jaguars including a Mk2 3.8 with manual gearbox, several XJ6 Series III models and now an S-Type 4 Litre.

I have an extensive mechanical background with experience building race car gearboxes for one well-known team and have ASE Master Technician certification.

I joined this forum mainly to save time with fault diagnosis as I find the British approach to vehicle design and construction to be very interesting.

This S-Type I acquired for very little money as the engine is in need of timing chains (both lower and upper) and tensioners. The previous owner (I believe it's 'PO' in forum-speak) got scared with what sounds to be a bad connecting rod bearing and just wanted to dispose of the car. It's painted in the English racing green and has a neutral interior, which is a bit worn. With only 77 000 miles, I'm somewhat surprised at the condition since the vehicle was maintained and has been garaged and used here in southern California since new.

Some other areas in need of repair are the upper and lower ball joints, which appear to be a common fault, as well as the heater valve and there are several electrical issues with the lights. I would be disappointed to have a British vehicle that did not have some electrical faults, but I promise not to make jokes about Lucas electrical components, or Ford parts in the case of this S-Type.

I live in Newport Beach, California thus the id NBCat.

Jim,

You're up early indeed if you're in Scotland! About 05.42 or so, is it not?
