Default Hello Everyone from VA

Hi, I don't know if I will continue to be an active member of this forum, but I thought it is good to introduce myself anyways. You can call me Sam. I live in VA Beach, VA and moving to Suffolk, VA soon. I bought 1994 Jaguar XJ6 with 4.0 Liter from my neighbor who passed away now. The car cranks but won't start. It sat in his driveway for almost 2 years and in my garage for a year. I finally had time to mess with it. I was able to start it with starting fluid, so it must be a fuel issue. I checked the fuses and relays and everything is fine, so next is the fuel pump. I removed everything from the trunk and pulled the plug to the fuel pump, and saw it has 4 prongs, but only two wires going in it. I tested with a test light while my wife was turning the key on/off and the pump is getting power, but not running. I took the straps off and ready to take the tank out, but I don't know if I should just move it out a little bit just enough to take the pump out without disconnecting the fuel lines. It seems like there is so much slack in the line and someone might have rigged it together because there is a piece of rubber hose connecting a metal line from the tank to a plastic hose to the engine. I am not sure if it is supposed to have 1 line or two (one for supply and one for return), but I will see.

I am a hobbyist mechanic and enjoy working on cars, but I am more of a domestic cars guy. I think it is because we all tend to stay away from what's not familiar to us. I thought it was weird to have the tank in the trunk. I owned a few imports in the past (Porsche Boxster, Porsche 944, Porsche 924, Toyota Rav4, and Mitsubishi Eclipse), but I realized that it is easier and cheaper if I stick with domestic, so I don't know. I will give this project a shot and see what happens. The car is in good shape and only has 93,000 miles on it. He changed the engine 4 years before I bought it, so only driven 2 years on the new engine. He asked me to do it and he will pay me at that time and I apologized and told him.. I don't know anything about these cars. It will take me forever to do it lol. He took it to a shop and had it done, but they did not do a good job because it has a small oil leak already.

Thanks for this awesome forum.. I will update you guys if I get it running.

Cheers!

Welcome to the forum Sam,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.

I can see you've already found your way to the XJ40 forum so there's no need for a link to it from me.
The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues.

Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

You can also visit the US Western Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/western-us-ak-ca-nv-ut-hi-wa-id-38/
to find other members in your region.

Good luck with the project and enjoy the forums.

Graham
