Hello, Im new and seek advice
Hello fellow Jaguar fans, Im new to the site and from New York. Im considering my first Jaguar purchase but have always been put off by there not so great reliability. Im not sure weather the 3.0 V6 in the S Type, 3.0 V6 in the X Type, 4.0 or 4.2 V8 in the S Type & XJ is the better combo. Which model do you guys think is the most reliable? Hope to hear back from you guys & have a great day

Hey Red, welcome to the site.
If you're interested In Jaguar, you've come to the right place
Please bear in mind this is the new member section and not everyone views this section so you might not get the response you're looking for.
As you've cast such a wide net its also difficult to point you to any specific section. If you can tie it down to a particular model try posating there for better / more specific answers OR put a post such as this into the general tech help area.....
Either way, good luck with your hunt

Hi Red, I'm a new Jaguar owner myself, I just bought my first one in November. I bought a 02 X-type 2.5, I didn't do much research. I found one that was really clean, a really nice blue. I'm a mechanic, so I know that no matter what you do something will always happen and something will always break down. I just bought it, then I started looking around for info and what I had gotten myself in. At this point I have no regrets. The car runs great has a good ride, and really good in the snow with the 4 wheel drive. If the snow gets really bad, like the snow were getting today, I'll drive my 4 wheel drive Dodge Ram truck. But there is nothing I can say bad about my Jaguar. I've always liked the style, and when I was in high school (a long time ago) my drafting teacher had a 12 clyinder. It was a great looking car, jaguar green and a convertible. So my friend, Jaguar's no matter which you choose are a good deal. I Love my mine.

Thats pretty cool. Im actually in training to become a mechanic myself lol. I do auto tech everyday half day and have an intern at a chevy/cadillac dealership. I just have heard so many bad things about jags but i love there styling and me who isn't too mechanically inclined yet wouldn't want to have to do major work on my daily driver

Hi Red Welcome to the Forums. Any and all are good. Any and all have their own peculiarities.
If you read the model specific sections (a lot) you will be able to formulate your own ideas.
All cars of any manufacturer can and do have their own pet problems, and yet sometimes the problem that every car of XYZ has, may never happen to yours.
You need to narrow your seach down to the model years that you and your budget are looking at, then refine your search to looking for the 5 most common/most expensive regular repairs.
You can also use the Search facility to look for specific reccuring problems.
All the best,

welcome from the south Red! and wish you good luck on your car search. Each engine has its pros and cons, but if you ask me personally... 4.2L v8, cuz that's what I ended up with. It's been solid...except for expansion tank, water pump and now my belt tensioner with idler pulley. Keep in mind, i'm at 103,000 miles, still going strong!

Hi Red, I have the 3.0 V6 X-Type and love the car. It handles great, has plenty of response when I hit the gas and with the all wheel drive it is the best winter car that I have ever owned. I have taken guys out for rides and they cannot believe that the 3.0 V6 has the accelaration that I get. I live in Alaska and drive it 200 miles a week on snow and ice without studded tires. I get 23 - 25 mpg on the road. Bottom line - I like it. Kanu
