Default Hello from Massachusetts USA, 2002 xtype

Hi folks,
yep, fortunate enough to get a 2002 2.5 L v6 Xtype. Really nice shape, 128k miles.
was running great then the transmission fault is being displayed, cruise not available, and @ about 3000 rpm the transmission would make funny noises and feel like it’s slipping.
And about a week after that, it started running like crap, rough idle, and would buck and hesitate like crazy.

I had a mechanic plug into his analyzer, and bunch of codes came up. He suggested a tune up. So I started with plug, and learned quite a bit about the intake manifold...

well car still ran like crap... then I joined this forum,
ive changed pcv, pcv hose, and imt Orings. Running better but not right yet.
and I drained transmission fluid and added 6 qts, that didn’t help the transmission.

ive a fuel filter to change next but not sure where to go next?
or how exactly to check all the vacuum lines and hoses?

and I bought upper intake gaskets, think that will help?
Reading this forum, keeping me positive. I don’t think it’s a lemon.
thanks,
MikeT

Welcome to the Forums.

The X Type Section is the place for Tech stuff, as you know.

Battery, is all I will say, that critter throws more codes than any other item, must be 100%, no iffs, no buts.

Good luck.

Welcome to the forums Mike,

Throwing parts at a Jaguar soon becomes very expensive. For best advice, post the actual codes. Grant's advice in post #3 about the battery could save you a lot of grief as a partly discharged or failing one will throw all kinds of weird codes..

It sounds like you've already found your way to the X-Type forum so there's no need for a link to it from me. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues.

You can also use the US Northeast Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/us-northeast-35/ to find other members in your region.

Enjoy the forums.

Thanks everyone, ok let me check the battery and alternator just for giggles, then I’ll change the battery and get new codes. And report back!

The battery reads 12.45 cold and when running (w alternator) is 14.6, should I still get a battery?

Hi everyone, well I changed valve cover gaskets, upper imt gaskets and 6 plug coils and the car is purring. Yep took me about 5 hours. Still have the check engine lite on, will bring to a mechanic and get a new reading in what’s next!

When you get the codes, start a new thread in X-Type forum. Lots of members read the Intro's but not many come back to a thread here again once they've read it.
