Default Hello from Michigan

Hi i would lime to introduce myself and say that i hope to get and share alot of usefull info here

My name is Don and just this past week bought myself my first Jaguar.

It is an 98 XJ8L VP. Bought the.car with no battery so didnt know much about it but what they told me. Its been sitting for about 3 years and has timing guide issues and as they remember it it had about 240k on the odometer.

Got it home put battery in and started.right up ony has 124k on it but very noisy motor. Sounds more like a rod than timing. No biggie only payex 600 for it and its super clean rust free.

I enjoy wrenching and do it for a living. Have done many engine swaps and like to play mosty with fords and the 4.6 dohc 32v.

Growong up in the Detrpit area and having worked at a few import shops ACS McLaren Rousch and others i usually have an inside line to tech and parts

Have any question drop me a line

Welcome to the forum, Don, and greetings from a fellow Midwesterner! Congrats on the new car/project. Sounds like the condition of the car makes it worth your wrenching.

Enjoy the forum,
Scott

Default Welcome Don!

Hi Don,
Welcome to the Jaguar Forum website and welcome from the Midwest Region.
I know that you will get a lot of help from this website.
Even though it’s really short notice we do have a Jaguar meet taking place on Sunday September 22, at Addison Oaks, here's the link:
Jaguar Meet - Addison Oaks, MI Sept 22, 2013?
It would be awesome if you could make it out there!

No need to bring your Jaguar unless you really think that it’s up to it
Check out the link in my signature to touch base with things going on in our area.
Hopefully I will get to meet you and your car in person.
All the best to you.

4.0 to 4.2 is not a simple shoehorn replacement but members here have done it. Check this link in S-Type forum to get outline info:

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...k-4-2-a-23763/

If you start a new thread in X308 forum, you'll get more advice.

Good luck.
