Default Hello from New York!

Hello!

I currently live in New York. I have always loved Jaguars, especially the XJS, the Series III XJ6, and the XJ40.

I figured I should sign up for these forums and look through threads and try to get as much information as I can so when I do get a Jaguar, I get a good one.

So far, I've learned that Jaguars are a lot of work (but most of it seems like the fun maintenance work I kind of like). At the same time, I'm a bit scared that anything in this snow-prone part of the US is going to be a rustbucket or painted over so much that I won't be able to tell. I don't think I'll have the time to learn welding and I don't know if I'm up to metalwork. The amount of work that some of the members have had to put into keeping their cars in great shape (which is what I would want) is amazing and kind of intimidating.

Anyway, I'll try not to be a pest and thanks for running and participating in such a comprehensive forum.

Hello, Eric,
Many of us consider the maintenance and repair we do on our cars to be a form of bonding. Because of that, some of us are Strongly Bonded to our cars! lol

Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.

Welcome to the forum Eric,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.

I see you've already found the XJS forum for help, advice and information.
The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues. The XJS is probably the most ambitious model choice for a first Jaguar but a great car.

You can also visit the US Northeast Region forum by following this link US Northeast - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum
to find other members in your region.

Enjoy the forums.

Graham

Thanks, Graham.

I was afraid someone with experience was going to say that. Is it harder than most Jaguars to get XJS parts or is it because of the quirks of the XJS design?

I don't mind being ambitious, but I don't want to be rubbish.

Eric, if you spend the right amount of money and buy a Jaguar in excellent condition, then you will not need to do a lot of work. Just like any car, if you buy a poor example then be prepared to spend a lot of time and money. Jaguars are not a lot of work, poorly maintained automobiles are.

Welcome.

Only REAL issue with the XJ-S, is the total lack of proper maintenance by the many previous owners, odd smattering of "experts" with opinions, mechanics that have NO idea, etc etc, and then the car gets blamed for all the illness.

My XJ-S have been 100% reliable, once that dreaded "catch up" is taken care of.

Good luck.
