Hi all - grateful for this forum. I used to restore MG’s, and relied on the community there to help out. Hope you all can lend me a hand.
Bought a 1998 XK8 last week with just 20,000 miles on it - its in great shape...but I’ve run into a problem with the convertible top. I was closing the top when it just stopped and I got a “Convertible Not Latched” indicator on the dash. The top seemed to be latched, but the rear windows were down and did not come up.
I went through the manual latching procedure in the manual, but no change. Top is latched but the indicator remains, and the rear windows wont come up.
Any suggestions? Thanks!
Terry

Howdy and welcome to the forum. Follow this link to the Jagrepair website. Gus is great and has all you ever need to know about the convertible top operation. Your windows probably aren't closing because the lift rams aren't fully extended. Read thru his procedures and trouble shooting and you will most likely find the cause and repair.

Thanks Vern. I tried manually opening the top (per Gus’ instructions) and then closed it...but I guess I dont understand where I need to push on the rams to lock them - everything seems to be tight & locked on the top.
Thanks for the advice - I was kinda hoping to take my car out for a ride in the autumn colors tomorrow (dammit!). Ah well...

Also, I don’t know if it is the problem or simply complicates it: I checked the hydraulic fluid level on the system and it is right at the lower line on the reservoir.
Appreciate any suggestions - I really would have loved to have taken the Jag out today. Gorgeous Fall scenery here in the hills of Western Pennsylvania!
