Default Hello from South Central (Edinburgh)

Hello folks. I'm the (ludicrously) proud owner of a new XJ L Supersport. I spent a few hours lurking here as part of my research before buying, and now I am a proud Jaguar owner I thought I'd register lest I may be able to help anyone else as I myself was helped.

I'm determinedly middle-aged, married, and I have three children under 10. The XJ is the reward for spending 6 years driving a Renault Grand Espace (which we've kept for bus/van duties).

I never really thought I'd buy an XJ. Not until that fateful day when the saleslady offered me a deal that was almost too good to turn down. The obvious choice for a fast saloon car was a BMW M5, but it was too hard and too small.

Now, every time I drive my XJ it makes me smile, and I realise I made the right choice. The children have christened it "Perry" (they watch a lot of Phineas and Ferb).

I'm only two weeks into my ownership, but I'm loving it.

Welcome to the forum Giles,

We can never have too many 'G's around here!

Good to hear you found useful information on the forum to help your buying decision and you're happy with the choice of the XF.

Those considering a similar purchase will value your advice in the XF section.

Graham

Thanks Graham. Yes, I like to do my research, and JaguarForums definitely gave me the most useful information when I was casting around the 'net.

I'll mainly be found in the X351 section, but I'll explore the rest of the site too.

Hello Giles, do you use baby seats in the Jag? Do they damage the leather??

Hello. The three year old is in a forward-facing level 2 seat, with side protection. It connects to the ISOFIX mountings in the outer rear seats, and uses the three-point belt. I found that it was difficult to fit the piece of the child seat that teases open the ISOFIX aperture, but I got it done with a bit of persistence. The seat doesn't damage the leather at all (and hasn't done in the Espace, which is also leather upholstered.

The 5 year old uses a simple booster cushion. Also no real impact on the car.

The 8 year old is tall enough to not need any apparatus. She sits in the middle, and the primary worry with her is stopping her from kicking the rear climate controls. Naturally, the child locks are on, the rear windows deactivated, and the rear climate controls locked!

My experience is to always use ISOFIX seats, and always use the plastic collars they give you. This stops the ISOFIX bars from rubbing against/tearing the seat fabric as you install/remove the seats.
