All,
I'm looking to purchase a '03/'04 X350 without breaking the bank or buying a money pit. Over the years, between my wife and myself, we have owned four MB's, two Acuras, and one Honda Odyssey mini van. So far, I have driven two XJ8s. There was an issue with the paint of the first one ('04 blk/blk XJ8). There wasn't enough elasticity, so there were a zillion microscopic cracks in the finish. The second car ('04 blk/grey XJ8 VDP) had an issue with the air suspension. It needed a compressor, air bag, or both. It was very easy to pass on both cars :-)
I'm a very patient buyer. I always start shopping LONG before I want to pull the trigger. That makes it easy to walk away from a less than ideal transaction. I'm also a DIYer (my MB mechanics, who drives a Range Rover with a Jaguar supercharged engine, calls me an amateur). I enjoy working on cars. Although I have yet to buy a "cat," I am becoming an informed consumer. I'm sure the forum will help me become an extremely informed consumer. I trust that it will also help me make a good purchase.
That said, assuming I do the minor stuff (e.g., oil changes, brakes, spark plugs, etc.), how much should it cost to maintain a X350 annually? Also, would it make sense to replace the air suspension with springs and struts? Lastly, it is realistic to get 200k+ miles on a XJ8?
Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forum Norris,
Good to have you here with us at Jaguar Forums.
You've got the right approach to Jaguars. Do the research and go through the service history with a microscope. It's never going to be a cheap vehicle to run but a good example will last.
Follow this link XJ ( X350 & X358 ) XJ6 / XJ8 / XJR - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the X350 forum for help, advice and information.
You can also visit the US Lower Atlantic Region forum by following this link Lower Atlantic - NC SC FL GA - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to find other members in your region.
